Section III / Biology
Tracing an inherited condition
Each person has two copies of a particular gene, one from each parent, and passes one of their two copies, chosen at random, to each child. In a recessive condition, a person is affected only if both of their copies are the faulty version. Someone with one faulty copy is unaffected but is called a carrier.
Figure 1 shows three generations of a family with a recessive condition. Squares are males, circles are females and shaded symbols are affected people. A horizontal line joins two parents, and the lines below it lead to their children.

All three GAMSAT sections, practised the way you’ll sit them
The GAMSAT is three papers in one day. Section III is where the free plan starts; a pass opens the other two.
See why the right answer is right and where the other options go wrong.
Feedback on your reasoning
Write a line about how you got there. You’ll hear where the thinking held up and where it slipped.
Flags for later
Mark any question you want to see again and come back to it when you’re ready.
Progress by section
Track your accuracy over time, so you know where the next session should go.
Question 2 of the sample unit
Your reasoning
The right atrium is 10 points above the body’s 65% and 20 below the left atrium’s 95%, so the opening supplies 10/20. I chose 1/2.
Feedback
You’ve compared the two streams with each other, which gives a ratio: one part through the opening for every two from the body. The question asks for a fraction of all the blood, and one part in three is 1/3.
Try this next
Write the mixture as an equation: 95f + 65(1 − f) = 75. It gives the fraction directly, with no ratio to convert.

GAMSAT practice FAQs
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. Create a free account with your email or Google and start today’s unit straight away. There’s no card to enter, no trial that runs out and nothing to cancel. You’ll only see a payment screen if you choose to upgrade.
What can I do on the free plan?
Work through one Section III unit each day: a shared science stimulus with its linked questions, just like the exam. Explanations, progress tracking and question flagging are included. You can also study the first 4 Learn syllabuses, 32 lessons covering the maths and core chemistry that Section III leans on.
What does upgrading add?
Unlimited practice across all three sections. Work through as many units as you like each day, practise Section I and Section II alongside the sciences, sit full-section timed presets and take band checks of any length. It also opens the other 8 Learn syllabuses, for all 101 lessons. The monthly plan and both passes include exactly the same access; only how you pay differs.
Which plan should I choose?
Go monthly at A$24 a month if your exam is only a few months away or you’d rather not commit; you can cancel anytime. If you’re sitting the GAMSAT once in the next 7 months, the Exam Pass works out to A$20 a month. The Two-Sitting Pass covers 12 months at A$17 a month, for two sittings, such as March and then September, or a longer run-up.
Can I cancel?
Yes. The monthly plan renews each month until you cancel, which you can do anytime from Plan & billing; you keep full access until the end of the month you’ve paid for. A pass is a single payment: it doesn’t renew and you won’t be charged again, so there’s nothing to cancel. If you need more time later, buy another pass and it starts when your current one ends.
What is the GAMSAT?
The Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) is the exam used to select students for graduate-entry medicine, dentistry and related courses in Australia, the UK and Ireland. It has three sections: Reasoning in Humanities and Social Sciences, Written Communication, and Reasoning in Biological and Physical Sciences. Get Into Med has practice for all three.
Is this official GAMSAT material?
No. Get Into Med is an independent practice resource and is not affiliated with or endorsed by ACER. Questions are original practice material, and practice results are not official GAMSAT scores.
