GAMSAT score calculator: work out your overall score
Enter your three section scores to see your overall GAMSAT score, with Section III counted twice as in the standard calculation. Then read how scoring works and what makes a score competitive.

How GAMSAT scores are calculated
Each section is scored separately, and ACER combines them into an overall score. In the standard calculation Section III is double-weighted:
Overall = (Section I + Section II + 2 × Section III) ÷ 4
That means every extra point in Section III adds half a point to your overall score, while a point in Section I or Section II adds a quarter. If your sections are uneven, improving Section III usually moves the overall score fastest.
Section scores are scaled, so they aren’t the percentage of questions you answered correctly. Scaling keeps results comparable between sittings with different questions.
What is a good GAMSAT score?
There’s no fixed pass mark. Because scores are scaled, a good score is a relative one: it’s good if it places you ahead of most of that year’s candidates and competes for the programs you want.
- Cut-offs move every year. Interview thresholds depend on how many people apply, how they score and how many places are offered.
- GAMSAT is rarely the only factor. Most schools combine it with your GPA and an interview, and weight each part differently.
- Section minimums matter. Some schools require a minimum in every section, so a very low section can rule you out even if your overall score is strong.
Look up the admissions guide for each school you’re considering. Many publish their weighting, minimums or past thresholds.
Estimate your score before the exam
Raw marks on practice material don’t convert exactly into GAMSAT scores, but you can still get a useful read on where you stand. Get Into Med’s free 15-minute Section III band check gives you an estimated score range from a short set of exam-style questions.

Common questions
How is the overall GAMSAT score calculated?
In the standard calculation, Section III counts twice: overall = (Section I + Section II + 2 × Section III) ÷ 4. Some universities use their own weighting, such as counting all three sections equally, so check each school’s admissions guide.
What is a good GAMSAT score?
There’s no pass mark. GAMSAT scores are scaled against everyone who sits the test, so a good score is one that puts you ahead of most of that year’s candidates and is competitive for the schools you’re applying to. Interview cut-offs change each year and usually depend on your GPA too.
Is the GAMSAT score a percentage?
No. Section scores are scaled, not the percentage of questions you got right. A raw mark on a practice test can’t be converted exactly into a GAMSAT score.
Is there a minimum score for each section?
Some universities set one. Several Australian schools require at least 50 in each section to be eligible, but rules vary by school and year, so check the admissions guide for every program on your list.
How long do GAMSAT scores last?
It depends on the university. Many accept results from recent sittings for around two years, but each school sets its own rules.
